Prosomillet (chino) is a type of millets crops which is fourth important food crops. It is a warm season growing grass with growth duration 60-100 days. We can get high nutrition from this crops which is used for human needs, birds seed and alcohol production. It is grown is ln drought condition and heat tolerance which is it’s unique characteristics because we can get higher production than other irritated species of crops. Its production is also used as cash crops in many regions. Its varieties are produced to be able for dryland farming which help to farmers to create a good of climate/ diversity for another crops or crops rotation. This crops don’t need high irrigation. It is also cultivate in dry land so it is low water requirements crop. It produce higher grain than other irritated species of crops so it is known as grain of poor.
According to archeologist we know that this crops is first originated before 10,000BCE in Northern China. Now this crops is cultivated in many countries of the world such as China, Nepal, India, Russia, the middle East, Turkey, Romania and the united states.
Condition of prosomillet in Nepal
In context of Nepal, prosomillet is the second important food crop among the different varieties of millet crops with large range of utility. The people of Nepal used for many different food varieties from this grain for their food like they make Bhat, kheer, alcohol, dhindo, roti, etc .Also people of some remote areas used as a main food for this Crops. In further days, this crops also be a one of the most important food crops for the remote areas people. In case of Nepal we can cultivate this crops mostly in high hills. Now a days this crops is mainly cultivated in Mughu, Dollar, Humla, Jumla, kalikot, Bajura and Jajarkot.
Nutritional value of prosomillet
Prosomillet is very healthy food which has high nutritional value containing capacity than other cereal crops. We can get mainly protein from this crops. It contains 12%protien,1.1%fat,70.4%carbohydrate,2.2%fiber and 1.9%minerals(such as:Iron, Zinc, Copper and manganese) which helps to maintain our body fit and healthy. It contains different kinds of nutrition which is important for our body and also in daily life.
Health benefits
Prosomillet contains high nutrition which helps to maintain our body fit and healthy. Also it contains high lecithin which helps in neural health system. As we know that it contains high nutritive but it also rich in containing vitamins, minerals and amino acids which helps in the decreasing problem from diabetes. We get many nutrition and vitamins from this crops so it keeps doctor away from us so it very important and healthy food and good for health . It is also a good climate making crops which maintain diversity for crop rotation which becomes good for human and environment also.
Problems for cultivating prosomillet:
Prosomillet is the summer annual crops so it needs higher temperature to grow
In this crops birds attacking is very high so we should care of birds
We cannot grow this crops everywhere because Nepal has different bio diversity.
In case of Nepal the cultivation method is traditional and farmers are not well educated so they don’t know how to cultivate and where it grown and their importance so, only few people cultivate this crops.
People donot know how to increase yeilding of this crops so they feel it’s not favor for this climate then they don’t cultivate this crops and cultivation decreases. So, we develop knowledge about this crop to the farmers.1
We can cultivate prosomillet as summer crops which is very importance for our daily life as food, medicine etc.It is good for health and it has higher nutritional value than other cereal crops so we should develop to higher cultivation of this crops in Nepal where suitable climate and temperature for this Crops. After cultivation of this crops we can obtained different kinds of nutrition which helps to keep doctor away. We should continue this crops for further because it has very important role for us.It helps to maintain the soil fertility for the crop rotation also.we can cultivate this type of crop in dry area also so we can called this crop as a grain of yield. It donot need high water requirements so easy to cultivate this crops and we care and management of this crop we can obtained higher yield of this crops.
